Life in Malaysia (Childhood)

I was in Msia since a few months old, till I think 3 years old? Or maybe even younger. I lived w my maternal grandparents and that probably explains why being a Hokkien, I fail miserably at that language..maybe except for a few swear words.
My maternal side is Hakka. And my aunts, who lived together, often speaks Cantonese w her friends. Being the one who hangs around them more, I'm more capable of understanding hakka and cantonese! still, I don't get why I can have that tinge of Msia accent in my Chinese if I want to:D

I don't rmb my baby memories. But I rmb the times I went back Msia!
Me and my cousins would take out all the cushions from the sofa and build an empire of our own (:
And using pokercards as money, we would 'buy' things like softtoys, water bottles or CDs we took out from th drawers hahaha! Our 'house' even have got doors ok! You gotta crawl thru it to enter(; if we got sick of playing this, we would stack these cushions up and jump on them, without the fear of falling and hitting our heads!

As my grandfather is a rubber taper, he often comes back home smelling quite unpleasant and we used to always pinch our nose and eeeee at him while he just laugh it off. Looking back, I felt that I was really mean because he worked so hard just to save them and prepare big ang baos for his 10+ grandchildrens in the CNY ;(
So, he would lie his socks under th sun, at th porch. And we kids would clamber over and look at those fat leeches filled w my grandfathers blood, squirming under the glaring sunlight. Then, we would rush over and look at the holes the leeches created on my grandfather and showed concern by fetching him plasters and medication(:

We have this big ceramic...barrier at the porch. Sometimes we would end up bathing there in a big bunch while neighbors walk past and smile at us. Nope, not shy at all! Guys girls all equal:b

Our aunts would buy us treats. Sometimes when the tidbit van drives past, we would run out and holler out for him to stop. We could recognize it's cheerful melody thus we never did missed it. Then we would munch our durian crackers/cheese rings/ice cream greedily:D

My food companion is th 老鼠分 there! Been eating that since baby! It's just up th road. And lunch would be Nasi Lemak just behind th house whereas supper would be roti prata, down th road. Dinner would be home cooked<3 food paradise eh?

At times, dad or my aunts would take us for a ride on the motorbike after dinner, enjoying th chilly air as that town is pretty much surrounded by forests. My grandfather is a poacher too; sometimes he kills a boar and we have a delightful dinner:b sometimes he brings back a monkey and we have tonic soup which tastes disgusting!!!

My grandfather and my aunt taught me basketball too(: I remember them trying to teach lay ups but then I got tired of trying to even his th hoop w th ball:/

Then I came over to SG and now, sadly, the house in Seremban is sold. They've moved to JB so I guess it's ok(: I've got 4aunts so I'm naming them in general in the above!

Le sigh... How innocent and naive we all were back then. Life was much simpler. I could cuddle w blankets on the floor and watch crayon shinchan all th time... Yes, I've been watching it since 5

Wordy post again!><
